Each month, our staff choose four books that they love, and hope you will too. Some months we choose titles by theme, others are just great books that we think everyone should know about.
For August we have chosen some of our favourite summer reads – from classics that need the headspace of being on holiday, to books that transport you to far away places.
Alice has chosen the following books as her favourite summer break books:
- Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh
‘A must read at some point in your life. Better than the film – choose life’ - Three Women by Lisa Taddeo
‘A deep dive into the loves and the lives of three women; a testament to the bravery and individuality of women – and true stories!’ - Slanting Towards the Sea by Lidija Hilje
‘A cinematic love-letter to Croatia, family, and lost love. Hilje aims to answer the question: can you only truly love someone if you can let them go?’ - Girlbeast by Cecilie Lind
- ‘A fearless, poetic re-imagining of ‘Lolita’ An excellent Danish translation with a unique spin on the usual Lolita trope. I devoured this.’
